There are many kinds of bamboo, including Phyllostachys pubescens, Dendrocalamus lactiferous, and Fargesia fargesii. In tropical and subtropical regions, East Asia, Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean, and Pacific Islands are the most concentrated. There are many species, some of which are as low as grass, and some are as tall as trees. They grow rapidly. They are the fastest-growing plants in the world. The aboveground stems of bamboo are woody and hollow (we call them bamboo stems). They grow in clusters from the underground stems (rhizomes) of bamboo. Bamboo is very tough, and many materials are made of bamboo. such as bamboo stakes for the garden.

Bamboo Forest |
The shortest bamboo species has a stem height of 10-15cm, and the largest bamboo species has a stem height of more than 40m. The mature bamboo gives birth to horizontal branches, with sword-shaped leaves and petioles. The leaves of young plants grow directly from the stems. Although the stems of some species grow rapidly (0.3 meters per day), most species only bloom and seed after 12 to 120 years of growth. Bamboo blossoms and seeds only once in its life.
The underground stem (commonly known as a bamboo whip) of bamboo grows horizontally, with a little space in the middle. There are also nodes and many dense ones. There are many fibrous roots and buds on the nodes. Some buds grow into bamboo shoots and grow out of the ground. Others do not grow out of the ground, but grow horizontally and develop into new underground stems. Therefore, bamboo grows in forests. The tender underground stems and bamboo shoots can be eaten.
In autumn and winter, when bamboo shoots have not grown out of the ground, they are called winter bamboo shoots. In spring, bamboo shoots grow out of the ground and are called spring shoots. Winter bamboo shoots and spring bamboo shoots are common foods in Chinese cuisine. In spring, bamboo shoots wait for spring rain in dry soil. If it rains, the bamboo shoots will grow out of the ground at a fast speed.
